As the horde reels from the broad and savage attack from their new nemesis, the Thale, the leadership is torn in how to respond. Some clan leaders, especially those who haven’t faced the horror of having their members captured, demand that the horde turn back to the Big Wet. Another group, demands vengeance and wants wage a war of annihilation. Finally, a third faction wants to find another way around the Thale and over the Great Barrier Mountains.
Which path will the player’s clans throw in their lot? Or will they rally the horde to forge a new path?
A new aspect of the game will be introduced this session. Players will be able to help shape the future actions of the Kallic Horde via Skill Contests. Due to the epic nature of swaying the actions of several hundred thousand people, these skill rolls will have a high penalty associated with them. But to help offset this penalty, a player who wishes to try to direct the efforts of the horde can gain assistance from other players and their followers. For the benefit of the players, an example is laid out here.
Kallic Bob wants to convince the leadership of the horde to find a new path over the Great Barrier Mountains. He wishes to use his skill in Oratory to make it happen. He will roleplay his case to the rest of the party. Through his persuasive rhetoric , he gains the assistance of John the Axe and Sledmaster Dwain. The roll has a penalty of 8. Kallic Bob’s Oratory roll is a 14. With the penalty, he has to roll a 6 or less on three dice, not very good. But he will be assisted first by John the Axe. John will use his Tactics roll of 12 to convince the mob that the Kallic are currently outclassed by the Thale and their beasts. He succeeds on his roll, which gives Bob a +1 to his roll. Then Dwain decides to use his AK: Great Barrier Mountains roll of 14 to assist Bob, by explaining how there are other passages through the mountains. Luckily enough, Dwain succeeds the roll by 6. The GM decides that this roll is good enough to give Bob a +2 to to his roll. So now, Bob rolls and succeeds by 2. This convinces the horde’s leadership in Bob’s choice of action and the Kallic Horde moves to find a way around the Thale. If the other players wish to push for another path, they can do so, but will need to beat their roll by more then what Bob did (so they need to succeed by 3 or more).
Through out the session, if a player wishes to use the same skill over again, he can, but he will get an additional penalty, that will double on each additional roll. So if Kallic Bob uses Oratory on a later roll, he will be at -1 (then again at -2, followed by -4, and finally -8).
